About

Canyon Bar and Grill keeps dinner-only hours in El Portal, seating diners nightly from 5 to 8 PM along Highway 140 on the approach to Yosemite Valley. It's a moderately priced pub-and-diner hybrid, and for travelers staying in this stretch of the canyon after the park's own restaurants close, it's one of the few dinner options actually open.

What's on the Table

The kitchen runs a classic American bar menu — burgers, sandwiches, and a full bar with a drinks list. Reviewers most often single out the fish tacos and the Canyon Burger as the stronger plates, usually served with a side of fries.

Now granted not much else around. Firstly staff looked like they didn’t wanna be there, secondly ordered a beer, it was flat. Ordered the chicken finger basket, found a hair in my fries. Overall food just tasted re heated and not a great experience

We stopped and ate dinner here last month while on our way to our hotel near Yosemite. The food was ok, with a typical take-out style menu; mostly sandwiches and finger foods. The restaurant is an open layout, more of a club house/bar style establishment, and it is very loud. The prices were better than most other eating establishments we ate at while visiting Yosemite, and you place your order and pay, then a server brings out your food in baskets. Overall, not a bad place to eat, but the food is average.

Very disappointing experience. The food was overpriced, poorly presented, and not worth the money at all. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich, and it came basically deconstructed, with the lettuce, tomato, and onions just thrown on the side instead of actually being made into a sandwich. The portion was extremely small, almost like a kid’s plate, and the ingredients were not good. The lettuce was huge and awkward, the tomatoes had no flavor, and even the bun was underwhelming. The service was also terrible. The staff did not feel welcoming, and the atmosphere in the dining room was uncomfortable. On top of that, one of the waiters was extremely rude and made an obscene gesture, which was completely unacceptable. Honestly, the veggie burger looked better than what we ordered, which says a lot. Overall, the experience was frustrating, overpriced, and disappointing from start to finish. I would not recommend this place.Very disappointing experience. It's a good restaurant for dinner, with classic dishes and good service. The prices weren't as high as the breakfast restaurant.
