About

Mariposa-Yosemite Airport (MPI) sits just outside Mariposa, a short drive from Yosemite National Park's Highway 140 entrance. Reviewers describe a small, well-run field that's popular with private pilots, flight students, and skydivers, earning a 4.7-star rating across 26 reviews.

Flight Training and Aircraft Rental

AirBorn Aviation runs a flight school out of the field, and reviewers repeatedly single out instructor Cullen for his local knowledge of flying around Yosemite's terrain. Pilots can also rent aircraft here to explore the area from the air.

On the Ground

The airport keeps a 24-hour self-serve fuel pump, a pilots' lounge with a pool table, and restrooms reviewers describe as clean. Rental cars are available on-site for pilots who need ground transportation into Mariposa or toward the park. Reviewers also mention friendly, helpful staff under the airport's current ownership.

Good to Know

Skydiving operations use the field regularly, so watch the pattern and radio traffic if you're flying in yourself. One reviewer recalled a close-up look at firefighting helicopters staged at the airport during the Creek Fire — a memorable one-off sight tied to that specific wildfire, not a standing feature of the airport.

I flew with Cullen outta MPI and AirBorrn Aviation. They maintain an outstanding flight school, flying with Cullen was great. He was very knowledgeable of the area, aircraft, and is a fantastic instructor. If you’re thinking about learning to fly in the Yosemite area, call and get ahold of Cullen! Can’t wait to go back. I’ll definitely be going back to rent the plane again to fly around the area!
